- Klopp feels his side still has some space for improvement
Jurgen Klopp, after Liverpool defeated Sheffield United 2-0 Thursday, has insisted that “there is space for improvement” and no one is ever in a mood to party after any game.
With the win at Anfield, Liverpool have now gone undefeated in the Premier League in the entire season having last tasted a loss on Jan. 3 at Etihad. The duo of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah netted goals for the Reds as they went 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Liverpool, who have extended their home record to 51 unbeaten matches since April 2017, are undergoing one of the best runs in the history. They have won 10 of their last 11 matches in as many as 33 days and overall, they are yet to lose in the Premier League this season, having drawn one game that came at Old Trafford.
Despite the overwhelming run, Klopp said his players will not be in a party mood any time soon as his unbeaten team still can improve ahead of the crucial part of the season.
“There is space for improvement. How you deal with it in the headlines I couldn't care less. We don't see it as a threat to other teams. For us, it's important that we just care about us. We can do things better and we have to. But I saw some things tonight that we did better than the last game, for example."
"There was no party after the game. It's really an intense period of the year, so it's not like somebody wants to go out tonight and have a few drinks, they're all happy when they're in bed – so am I, by the way! The players know they want to do better. But for tonight, our performance was as good as anything. It was just really, really good. That makes me quite happy,” Klopp said in a post-match interview after Liverpool’s 2-0 win Thursday.
The German manager made a special mention for Liverpool captain Jordon Henderson for doing well in the midfield during their win over Sheffield.
“It was a really good football game. We played in exactly the way you have to play against Sheffield United. I don't think they had a lot of games like this in 2019. That was the best thing for me, that the boys didn't let them get anything from the game."
“Our passing was really good, we broke lines, our positioning was exceptional, our defensive discipline was exceptional. Because of the way they set it up, it's difficult for the counter-press, but it's really good how we reacted, the center-halves were spot on, Hendo around that outstanding,” Klopp added.
