Whether he’s railing against how the media covers him, snapping longstanding diplomatic relations with China, calling his political opponents names, battling “Saturday Night Live” and actor Alec Baldwin or simply announcing dates for his “Thank You” tour, President-elect Donald Trump uses Twitter as his main communication arm with the world.

Unfortunately for Trump, voters think he may have to scale back his use of social media.

A Morning Consult/Politico survey released Tuesday found 56 percent of those polled said the billionaire uses Twitter “too much,” while 16 percent said Trump reaches his 16.8 million followers “about the right amount.” Only 5 percent of respondents said Trump should use Twitter more.

The survey did find a sort of social media partisan line. Addressing those who cast a ballot on Election Day last month, 37 percent of Trump voters said he tweets too much and 42 percent of Republicans agree. But Democrats and those who identify as independents feel even stronger, with 75 percent of Dems and 48 percent of independents disliking his frequent use of Twitter.

Perhaps even more concerning for Trump as he gears up for Inauguration Day next month, 49 percent of all respondents called his Twitter output a “bad thing” compared to 23 percent calling it a “good thing.” Roughly 41 percent of Trump supporters back his Twitter use and 24 percent do not.

To date, Trump has fired off more than 34,000 tweets. He also appears quite picky with who he follows. The real estate mogul follows only 40 other Twitter users.

Trump’s shown he can conduct foreign policy via social media, as well. He lambasted China Sunday for its trade policies and currency manipulation after it took umbrage with his phone call with Taiwan’s president last week. In response, The Hill reported social media users in China have made comments like: "The only way for the White House to have one day in peace is to cancel Donald Trump's Twitter account."

Coincidentally or serendipitously, Trump addressed his Twitter usage on Monday, garnering more than 109,000 likes and 31,000 retweets. He wrote: "If the press would cover me accurately & honorably, I would have far less reason to 'tweet.' Sadly, I don't know if that will ever happen!"
