Drug tests make everyone nervous, and more so when you smoke marijuana and are worried that it will turn up in your results.

One of the most common drug test methods is urine testing. This method is considered to be less expensive, easier to collect, and there’s the added fact that THC remains detectable in your urine longer than it does anywhere else. The urine test detects THC-COOH rather than THC itself.

  • For one-time users, this test can detect the presence of THC-COOH 5-8 days after marijuana consumption.
  • For occasional users, 11-18 days after marijuana consumption
  • For regular users, 33-48 days after marijuana consumption
  • For daily users, 90 days after marijuana consumption

While these time frames are somewhat accurate, there are also other factors to take into consideration such as:

  • You metabolism
  • How frequently you exercise
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI), the higher it is, the longer it takes to flush THC out
  • How often you consume marijuana
  • The potency of marijuana consumed
  • The amount of marijuana you consume
  • Your diet’s fiber content

Here are some ways to help you flush THC out in order to pass your urine test.

Go for high-fiber foods

One way to flush out THC from your system is to go for high-fiber foods before your test. The primary benefit of high fiber foods is that it helps you poop. This is helpful as most of the THC and its metabolites are excreted during your bowel movements.

Drink fluids to flush out THC

One of the best ways to flush out THC is to drink plenty of fluids. Water does fine but you may consider giving coconut cream a try as some users have reported that it helped them pass their test. Take note though that drinking fluids alone is not enough to help you pass and you should still combine it with some of the other methods listed.

Exercise

It goes without saying that the higher your metabolism, the faster you can flush THC out of your system. For those with upcoming drug tests, now is the time to get moving. Exercising helps by lowering your body mass and burning fat, therefore helping you eliminate THC from your system faster. However, do not exercise 24 hours or so before the test. When you burn fat, THC is re-released into your bloodstream and could put your test results in jeopardy.

Ketogenic Diet

THC is stored in fat cells and this is one of the reasons why it takes so long to detox your body if cannabis. The more body fat you have and the more you smoke, the longer it will take to eliminate THC from your system. One way of getting rid of excess fat, and hopefully the THC stored in it, is to go on the ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, low-carb diet and is designed to make your body use ketones from fat for energy instead of glucose from carbohydrates. This effectively helps in getting rid of excess fat.

For those with urine tests coming soon who simply do not have the time for the methods above, here are two quick, last-resort methods of passing your urine test.

Same Day Cleanser

A same day cleanser can temporarily clean out your urine for your test. These detox products provide a 5-hour flush so that you can produce a clean urine sample when the day of your test comes.

Synthetic Urine

Synthetic urine is quite common and there are even some that are geared towards cannabis users specifically. This method is riskier as you need to ensure that the urine is warm when you give it. Cold urine arouses suspicion and could put you at risk. Additionally, some hospitals monitor you while you are doing the urine test and it would be extremely difficult to pass synthetic urine as your own in such an event.
