A wedding ceremony can prove to be a nervewracking event for some couples, who tend to feel overwhelmed by their upcoming nuptials. Prince Charles and Princess Diana reportedly experienced similar sentiments ahead of their big day.

Charles and Diana appeared to have the perfect royal wedding, but in the month leading up to the big day, the two considered calling off the ceremony. Details about the couple’s 1981 nuptials were previously detailed in a television special.

In the Channel 5 documentary, “Charles and Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding,” Tracy-Ann Oberman revealed Charles had concerns about his and Diana’s relationship.

The narrator claimed that “in the month before the wedding, Charles had confided to one of his friends he did not yet love her. But he was sure he could.”

The documentary claimed, Charles also considered calling off the wedding hours before he was scheduled to walk down the aisle. At the time, the Prince of Wales told friends Diana “is exquisitely pretty, a perfect poppy. But she is a child.”

Charles was reportedly concerned the couple looked odd together. “She does not look old enough to be out of school, much less married,” he reportedly said.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward claimed Prince Charles’ inner circle thought his marriage to Diana was doomed before it even started.

“There was a whole group of Charles’ friends who saw this could be an absolute disaster. She was like a high-school student, and he was like a professor,” the author explained.

However, Charles wasn’t the only one ready to call off the engagement. The afternoon before the ceremony, Princess Diana “told her sisters she couldn’t go through” with the wedding.

Despite their reservations, Charles and Diana said their vows to St Paul's Cathedral in London and were married in front of millions of people. Although they went through with the wedding, their marriage fell apart, and they announced their separation in 1992.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana finalized their divorce in 1996, they shared two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
