Prince Charles is reportedly taking the next steps which suggest that he is preparing well for his upcoming role as king.

On the “Royal Central” podcast, commentator Lydia Starbuck said that Queen Elizabeth II is also doing her share in making sure that the heir to the throne is ready to become the central figure in the British monarchy.

“Even going back 5 years ago, the Queen was taking the lead in commemorations for the end of World War One and battles in World War 2. But now it does seem to be that it’s another step for Charles to really become the central figure,” she said.

According to Starbuck, the year 2020 is a huge one for the royal family. In May 2020, the VE Day will be celebrating its 75th anniversary. And in August of next year, the VJ Day will also commemorate its 75th anniversary. Prince Charles will reportedly take the lead on the two major events, which used to be the Queen’s role.

Royal expert Britney Gardner chimed in by saying that it shouldn’t come as a surprise for the Queen to be passing on some of her duties and engagements to her eldest son. After all, the monarch is already 93 years old.

“So this is a time that while she is still on the throne, he can be given a chance to start being a central figure,” she said.

Gardner also asked if it is the right time for Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles to do state visits again since Her Majesty has not had one since her trip to Germany four years ago. Throughout the past couple of years, the Queen has not been traveling overseas because of her old age.

In fact, she has also passed on some of her royal duties to her three other children, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, as well as her grandchildren.
