How Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Honored Princess Diana With Son Archie’s Name
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have honored Princess Diana with the name that they gave to their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
According to People, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave their son the second name Harrison as a tribute to Prince Harry. The moniker directly translates to “son of Harry.” However, Archie seems to be a bit of a mystery for royal fans.
But the publication claimed that the name Archie could share a connection with the late Princess of Wales’ ancestor, Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll. Campbell lived from 1629 to 1685 after he was executed for opposing the Roman Catholic James II.
Markle and Prince Harry’s son’s name came as a surprise to royal fans and betters who predicted that the couple will give their firstborn a traditional royal name. Some of the top picks in recent months included Arthur, James, Philip, and Albert.
Some royal fans were also convinced that Markle and Prince Harry would give their son the name Spencer as a tribute to Princess Diana and her side of the family. Princess Diana’s maiden name was Spencer.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton also made sure to honor Princess Diana in 2015 after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to their daughter. The royal couple decided to name her Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
Prince William and Prince Harry also kept their mom’s legacy alive during their respective engagement and the royal wedding. Two years ago, Prince Harry told BBC that he’s certain Princess Diana would’ve loved Markle.
“They’d be thick as thieves, without question. I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, so excited for me… But I think she would have been best friends with Meghan,” Prince Harry said.
Prince Harry proposed to Markle with a ring that features two diamonds from the Princess of Wales’ personal jewelry collection. Prince William proposed to Middleton with Princess Diana’s engagement ring.
