Prince William attempted to resist royal duties.

The Duke of Cambridge is second-in-line to the throne. He will be the next king after Prince Charles. However, there was a time in his life when he didn’t want to do his royal duties.

In 2017, Prince William worked as a helicopter pilot for the Royal Air Force. Many accused him of working to escape his royal duties since he only worked part time and flew just 100 hours in a few months. Due to this, some called Prince William “lazy.”

Royal correspondent Camilla Tominey confirmed that there was resistance on Prince William’s part, especially after he married Kate Middleton.

“There’s been a little bit of resisting doing duty, and indeed William has prioritised his immediate family over and above the Firm,” Tominey said.

She added that the other reasons of Prince William’s resistance to his royal duties has to do with the Queen’s sanctions. The Queen gave the Duke of Cambridge some leeway with his royal duties where he enjoyed greater independence.

Although Prince William was somehow reluctant, the Queen has already prepared him for his royal duties since he was a kid. When the duke was only 5, Queen Elizabeth II took a keen interest in teaching him the ropes to be the next monarch. Prince William even considered his granny the best role model and described the current monarch as a “soft influencing modest kind of guidance.”

“When William became a teenager, she would have him at Windsor Castle and would open the state boxes and guide him through the papers,” royal historian Robert Lacey told People. “It was William’s constitutional education.”

According to E! News royal correspondent Melanie Bromley, the Queen and Prince William have a “very close relationship.” However, their bond is reportedly “half family and half business” because the Queen is preparing Prince William to be the future king.

Royal author Juliet Rieden said that the Queen and the duke’s relationship has become more difficult due to their responsibilities in the monarchy. The Queen, 93, is already offloading a lot of her work both to the heir apparent Prince Charles and her grandson Prince William, who are the future monarchs.
