How Prince William, Prince Harry Divided Princess Diana’s Rings Between Them
Princess Diana left her jewelry to her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry before she passed away. But how exactly was it divided between the royal siblings?
The late Princess of Wales only had one engagement ring, and since Prince William was older than Prince Harry and Prince William wed before he did, the Duke of Cambridge gave the sapphire sparkler to his wife, Kate Middleton, in 2010.
After Princess Diana and Prince Charles divorced in 1996, the mom of two was given a special aquamarine ring that she wore as a replacement for her original engagement ring. The stunning ring was given by Prince Harry to Meghan Markle after their wedding on May 19.
Princess Diana’s good friend, Lucia Flecha de Lima, was the one who gave her the aquamarine ring. Lima passed away last year at the age of 76.
“The stone came from the same mine in de Lima’s native Brazil which has provided aquamarines for the Queen,” Richard Kay, a journalist for Daily Mail, reported.
Markle brought the aquamarine ring with her on her ongoing tour of Australia that started on Oct. 15. The Duchess of Sussex also received Princess Diana’s butterfly earrings and gold bracelet, which she wore during the first day of her engagement in Sydney.
According to a jewelry expert, since Prince William and Prince Harry are now both married, their wives will be seen with more of Princess Diana’s jewelry in the future, particularly at formal gatherings.
Princess Diana passed away on Aug. 31, 1997, following a fatal car crash in Paris. Before her demise, she left a will and testament.
“I would like to allocate all my jewelry to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it. I leave the exact division of the jewelry to your discretion,” she wrote.
Some of Princess Diana’s most famous jewelries include the Spencer tiara, which was loaned to her by her family, the sapphire brooch, which was a wedding gift from the Queen Mother, the Swan Lake set, which was produced by Garrard, the Saudi Suite, a wedding present from Crown Prince Fahd, and more.
