How Prince William Reckless Behavior Almost Ruined Prince Harry’s Reputation
When Prince William and Prince Harry were young, the two were partners in crime, that was until the Duke of Cambridge ultimately made a decision that almost ruined his brother’s reputation.
In April 2008, the brothers made plans to attend their cousin Peter Phillips bachelor party. While William thought it would be a good idea to fly to the bash on the Isle of Wight, using a Royal Air Force aircraft to reach his destination ended up backfiring on the young Prince.
According to the Express UK, Duncan Larcombe, the author of “Prince Harry: The Inside Story” revealed taxpayers were furious when they learned they would have to foot the bill for William and Harry’s unauthorized trip in the publicly funded helicopter.
“The reality is the boys should have traveled to the stag weekend by road because the risk of the story getting out was too great,” the royal correspondent said.
When news of the flight surfaced, Prince William reportedly felt awful that his younger received a majority of the blame. “It was felt that any criticism of Harry was unfair and William was very sorry that his brother had been dragged into the row.”
As a result of the backlash, Clarence House released an apology addressing William’s fault in the matter. “Prince William accepts that the sorties were naive and accepts his share of the responsibility for what happened,” the statement read.
The incident reportedly inspired Prince William to become more cautious and helped him avoid making “naive” decisions like that again. “The episode was a learning curve for William and as he went on to earn his RAF wings it was a mistake he never repeated,” Larcombe said.
Nowadays, Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship is rumored to have fallen apart following the Duke of Sussex’s marriage to Meghan Markle. Despite the speculation, Kensington has not acknowledged reports suggesting the brothers are no longer on good terms.
