Princess Diana had a change of heart about her wicked stepmother.

Princess Diana did not have a great relationship with her own mom and stepmother Countess Raine Spencer. According to the late Princess of Wales’ former butler, she used to sing “Raine, Raine, go away“ because she didn’t want her stepmom to be around.

“It’s funny, nothing bothers Raine, except if she fell over, she’d break her hair,” Princess Diana reportedly said about the countess, E! News reported.

Princess Diana also admitted that she once tried to push Raine down the staircase because she hated her so much. However, in the last two or three years of her life, Princess Diana made a full 180-degree turn in terms of her relationship to her step mom. She even told Burrell that she wanted to thank Raine for looking after her father and loving him so much. At the time, Princess Diana realized that Raine really loved and cared for her dad.

“I think it was twofold, really. Diana being a mature woman and being an outcast herself, finding herself on the margins of society, she realized Raine was in exactly the same place,” Burrell explained about Princess Diana’s change of heart. “So the two women had, at the end, much in common. It was interesting that she said to me that she felt sorry for [Raine] on her wedding day. Because Raine was shunted to the back of the room in St. Paul’s Cathedral, whereas her own mother, who had abandoned Diana as a child, was elevated into a royal position. She didn’t think that was fair, and it needed addressing.”

Princess Diana was not closed to her very own mom she even blamed her mother for her failed marriage. The princess told Dr. Lily Hua Yu, that Kydd was alcoholic and she didn’t like her. She also felt that if she only had a good mother, her marriage would have been successful.

Burrell described Princess Diana as a survivor. According to him, Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom had to be praised for getting on with her life and for not bothering about what people said about her.
