Princess Diana was accused of trying to keep Prince Charles from being king, but she reportedly failed.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans shared their insights on how they think the Princess of Wales tried to prevent Prince Charles from sitting on the throne. Even though the decision was not up to Princess Diana, she was still blamed for trying to destroy her ex-husband’s reputation.

Rob Cover, an associate professor at the University of Western Australia, said that Princess Diana agreed to sit down for an interview with Martin Bashir for Panorama with the desire to expose Prince Charles’ dirt.

“Diana did three things with the interview, the three together attempting to paint Charles as unsuitable for the throne and the third of which to deliberately indicate her view that he was unsuitable,” he said.

Princess Diana also did a wonderful job of trying to paint herself as the victim, which was her way of gaining public sympathy. The late mom of Prince William and Prince Harry also put all of the blame on Prince Charles and the royal family for trying to harm her.

But Chris Hawkes, a lifelong citizen of the United Kingdom, said that Princess Diana wouldn’t attempt to prevent Prince Charles from becoming the next King because she didn’t have the power. And the only way for her to do that is if he killed the father of her sons.

“Succession is laid down in statute. It’s not a gift; it’s not something that can be manipulated. Even by Diana, who after all was only a member of the royal family by virtue to her marriage to the Prince of Wales,” he said.

Dave Cross, a Republican said a similar thing. He said that even though Princess Diana wasn’t the smartest member of the royal family, she must have understood how the line of succession works. Understanding it means that Princess Diana knew it is not up to her to decide if Prince Charles will become King.
