How Will Erinn Hayes’ Donna Exit ‘Kevin Can Wait’ Season 2?
CBS announced last month that Erinn Hayes will no longer reprise her role as Donna in “Kevin Can Wait” Season 2.
Along with this news, the network also said that Leah Remini, who played the role of Vanessa in Season 1, will return to Season 2 as a series regular. But what the network didn’t explain is how the writers of the show will write Donna’s exit, considering that she is the wife of Kevin (Kevin James).

In the finale episode for Season 1, a retired Kevin worked on a case with his longtime rival officer, Vanessa. He came home to Donna and found out that she quit her job as a school nurse after being passed up for a promotion. Last month, a source told TV Line that “Kevin Can Wait” Season 2 will head to a new creative direction. It is therefore possible for the sitcom to become workplace-based instead of home-based.
On her Twitter account, Hayes revealed that she was let go by the creators of “Kevin Can Wait.” The actress also clarified that it wasn’t her who quit the sitcom.
Meanwhile, TV Line is exploring other storylines for Donna’s exit in the series. The publication noted that it is possible that Donna and Kevin will experience some marital problems. Since “Kevin Can Wait” will be focused mostly on Kevin and Vanessa at their workplace, he may talk about Donna without them actually seeing each other face-to-face in the season.
Additionally, it is also possible for Donna to go on a vacation or to visit her relatives elsewhere while she’s contemplating on what to do next after quitting her job. The publication is also speculating on the possibility of Donna getting into a tragic accident.
“Kevin Can Wait” Season 2 also stars Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright, Gary Valentine, Mary-Charles Jones, Lenny Venito, Leonard Earl Howze and James Di Giacomo. The sitcom will premiere on CBS on Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. EST, immediately following the Season 11 premiere of “Big Bang Theory” at 8 p.m. and “Young Sheldon” at 8:30 p.m. EST.
