HP TouchPad Sale Slated to Continue, Spread to Europe
The HP TouchPad sale is slated to continue with more discounted tablet computers priced at $99 available this week, with the sale rumored to spread to Europe.
HP TouchPads will be available early in the week, as HP's Social Media Manager Bryna Corcoran said in a tweet, at a discounted price of $99 for 16GB and $149 for 32GB.
Just six weeks after its release, HP announced last Thursday it was ousting the TouchPad due to poor sales and customer complaints about the software's speed. The company has also decided to get rid of all webOS devices in order to further develop the webOS platform itself, rather than focusing on hardware.
We will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices, said HP's senior vice president of Global Developer Relations, Richard Kerris, in a blog post. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward.
In the meantime, the HP TouchPad sale is underway, with round two slated to happen this week, as more TouchPads will be sent from warehouses and made available on HP's Web site for purchase at $99 for 16GB and $149 for 32GB.
Best Buy will no longer sell the discontinued HP TouchPad, and it has sold out and has sent the remaining tablet devices back to HP.
We are sold out of the HP TouchPad both in store and online and will not be receiving more inventory, Best Buy said.
While currently out of stock on HP's Web site, Corcoran tweeted that the best way to stay up-to-date about the HP TouchPad is to sign up on HP for updates on when wave two will happen.
However, the Web site was down on Monday following a tweet from Corcoran.
UPDATE: Alert site going to be down for 30 or so, so dev team can work some magic so you can cont. to sign up. Hang tight. #thanks., she tweeted.
The HP TouchPad sale is also rumored to spread to Europe as early as Tuesday, according to Dixons PR Mark Webb who tweeted that later today, TouchPads will be sold for £89 for the 16GB and £115 for the 32GB models. Engagdet also confirmed that the sale will travel across the pond to European retailers.
