HTC Ocean Note Leak Shows Secondary Ticker Display Similar To LG V10/V20
HTC’s unannounced smartphone, codenamed Ocean Note, has apparently been leaked in a new set of photos. The upcoming phablet comes with a secondary display, a feature that’s similarly found on LG’s V10 and V20 handsets.
The alleged leaked photos of the HTC Ocean Note were discovered in the depths of Weibo and shared widely by Android Police. The device’s overall look resembles most of Samsung’s recent handsets opting for an all-glass frame rather than an aluminum chassis. The camera module also appears to be protruding from the back of the phone and like the iPhone 7/7 Plus, it doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The hardware feature that stands out the most is the inclusion of a secondary ticker display just above the primary screen. This was of course first implemented by LG for the LG V10 back in 2015, and then again on the LG V20 in 2016.
The secondary ticker display on the HTC Ocean Note appears to be capable of showing notifications and shortcuts. There’s also an option to turn on the always-on display mode. All of these ticker display features are also found on LG’s phones as well.
As for specifications, an earlier leak indicated that the HTC Ocean Note will come with a 6-inch 1440p WQHD display, an MSM8998 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and a 4,000 mAh battery. The MSM8998 processor is rumored to be Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 835 processor, according to Android Pure.
However, the problem with this rumor is that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is said to be the very first smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 835. A separate source claims that the chipset in the Ocean Note might just be the Snapdragon 821, according to VentureBeat.
IBT reported last week that the Ocean Note might actually be called the HTC U Ultra when it’s finally announced during HTC’s “For U” event tomorrow (Jan 12). The Taiwanese phone maker is also expected to announce two other handsets, the HTC U Play (codename Alpine) and the HTC X10.
