A new report claims that HTC will be introducing a sequel to last year’s HTC One X9 in the first quarter of 2017. The handset will be called the HTC One X10 and will only be slightly different form its predecessor, but it will have a far better camera performance.

Details on the upcoming HTC One X10 comes from notorious leaker and VentureBeat reporter Evan Blass (@evleaks on Twitter). Blass claims that he got the info on the handset from “a person who has used one.” His source claims that the One X10 will only have slight differences from the One X9.

The only real major improvement is that the One X10 will come with 16.3MP rear-facing and 7.9MP front-facing cameras. This is a considerable leap from the One X9’s 13MP and 5MP cameras. That said, the One X10 does come with some shortcomings.

The HTC One X10 will come with a less powerful 1.9GHz Mediatek octa-core MT6755V/C, the same system-on-chip (SoC) found in the company’s Desire 10 Pro from last year. For comparison, the One X9 also came with an octa-core SoC, but it was a bit more powerful at 2.2GHz.

The HTC One X10 is also said to be packing 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The device still comes with a 5.5-inch display, but it also carries over the same 1080p full HD screen resolution of the One X9. Looking through the specs, the One X10 seems more like a refresh of the one X9 rather than an actual upgrade.

Internals and hardware features aside, the HTC One X10 does come with a different design. Based on the leaked photos, the One X10 appears to have a sleeker look up front that’s reminiscent of Google’s Pixel phones (which HTC also built). Also, the new handset will come with a fingerprint sensor on the back, as pointed out by GSM Arena. There’s no word yet on when exactly the HTC One X10 will be released, nor is there any information on pricing just yet.

Late last year, it was reported that HTC was planning on releasing three handsets in Q1 2017. The One X10 appears to be the low-end model out of the three. The other two devices are the 6-inch Ocean Note phablet (rumored to be called the U Ultra) and the successor to last year’s HTC 10.
