‘HTGAWM’ Season 4: Viola Davis Talks ‘Domino Effect’ Of Wes’ Death
Wes Gibbons (Alfred Enoch) is dead, and the negative effect this will have in the lives of his loved ones and friends will be seen when “How to Get Away With Murder” Season 4 returns.
Viola Davis, who plays Annalise Keating in the series, said that everybody will try to regain normalcy in their lives. However, Wes’ death will affect them more than they expected.
“I think Wes’ death, what you see it’s kind of like a domino effect,” she told E! News at ABC's summer TCA press tour. “It’s like that one block that you put on a finished piece that causes everything to fall down underneath it. That’s what you're going to see.”
Keating said Annalise has reached “rock bottom” this season, but the good thing about her character is that she’s keen to becoming “badass Annalise in the courtroom, getting that career back, getting that life back.”
Meanwhile, executive producer Pete Nowalk told TV Line that Season 4 will really delve into Laurel’s family tree and explore her youth. “This is the perfect way to reveal more of where [Laurel] comes from,” Nowalk said. “It will make a lot of sense why he (Laurel’s dad) ordered Wes to be killed. It’s fun to dig more into what Laurel’s backstory is and create a mystery around her family.”
At the same time, Nowalk told Variety that it’s a tough blow losing one of their major characters. Because of this, they’re going to devote Season 4 to solving Wes’ murder and letting the other characters heal and seek justice for him.
“We have to start the season wondering does Laurel have any idea that her dad basically killed Wes, and what is she going to do about that if she does?” Nowalk said. “Wes was the heart of the show, and now he’s dead. I think someone has to work to still solve his murder, because it's unsolved. Annalise feels like that’s just what they have to live with, but I don’t think Laurel wants to give up on that answer yet.”
“How to Get Away with Murder” will return for Season 4 on Sept. 28 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
