Huawei Mate 20 Leak Seemingly Confirms Face ID-Like Feature, In-Display Fingerprint Scanner
Huawei is expected to launch the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 Lite in October. Now, the front panel for the Mate 20 has been leaked and it seemingly confirms two features that will likely generate a lot of hype for Huawei.
The front panel for the Huawei Mate 20 was leaked by the Chinese website DigiTechQQ. The website published three photos of the front panel and they appear to suggest that the Mate 20 will have a notch on top of its display. More importantly, the trio of images also appears to confirm that the device will also house an advanced 3D sensing module that will allow the Mate 20 to support facial recognition technology that’s similar to Apple's Face ID on the iPhone X.
Another thing that this leak seems to have already confirmed is that the Huawei Mate 20 will have an in-display fingerprint scanner. One of the images shows the fingerprint sensor is located close the center of the device’s display.
The implementation of the in-display fingerprint scanner and 3D facial recognition technology are the two rumored features that are also expected for Samsung’s Galaxy S10, as pointed out by Phone Arena. The Galaxy S10 is expected to launch in early 2019, but the Huawei Mate 20 and its two other variants are expected to be announced this October.
If these images are legit, then Huawei will be beating Samsung to the punch in putting these types of technologies on its flagship Android smartphones. What’s more interesting here is that these features are also expected to be available on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Huawei will not only beat Samsung, but it will also do it with not one but two of its new smartphones.
The Huawei Mate 20 is expected to arrive with a 6.3-inch display, while the Mate 20 Pro will have a 6.9-inch display. Both are expected to be powered by Huawei’s upcoming Kirin 980 processor, which will be announced at IFA 2018 in Berlin on Aug. 30. The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are rumored to arrive with triple cameras on the back. Huawei has already confirmed that the regular Mate 20 will have a battery capacity that’s greater than 4,000mAh.
As for the Mate 20 Lite, press renders for the device already surfaced this past weekend. The renders show that the handset will have an iPhone X-style notch and dual cameras on its front and back. The Lite model is rumored to have a 6.3-inch LCD display and it will be powered by the Kirin 710 processor along with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
