Huawei Patent Shows Smartwatch That Can Store Wireless Earbuds
The Huawei Watch 2 from last year offered the Android Wear experience for just $300. Now it looks like Huawei is already planning some new features for its next smartwatch, which includes storage for wireless earbuds.
It’s been discovered recently that Huawei filed for a patent detailing a smartwatch that is capable of storing wireless earbuds. The patent was first spotted by LetsGoDigital and it shows various ways of how a smartwatch can store wireless earbuds. One of the methods described in the patent involves magnets that allow the earbuds to stick to the smartwatch. Another method shows a case with a spring mechanism that opens and closes to reveal the wireless earbuds.
The Huawei patent also gave some details on what the wireless earbuds will feature. The patent notes that the wireless earbuds will feature Bluetooth and it could also be water-resistant. The earbuds might also feature active noice canceling technology, as pointed out by Digital Trends. Pairing wireless earbuds with a smartwatch seems like a good idea. This would allow users to take calls on their smartwatch using wireless earbuds instead of flipping their wrists or pulling out their smartphones.
The patent was approved by the World Intellectual Property Organization on June 28. Although this may be a promising sign of things to come from Huawei, there’s still no guarantee that this would become an actual product. Big companies like Huawei file for dozens of patents to cover every possible avenue for future products, but most of those patents don’t see the light of the day. The company was also granted a patent for a gaming smartwatch in May, so Huawei might just be considering many different possibilities, as pointed out by The Verge.
Even if Huawei is really working on the Huawei Watch 3, it seems like it would take a long time before it’s released. The company just launched the Huawei Watch 2 2018 edition last month, so it makes a lot of sense that the Huawei Watch 3 won’t be released anytime soon.
Earlier this year, Huawei CEO Richard Yu did confirm that they were already working on the Huawei Watch 3, but said that they were taking their time. “It will come later — there’s no hurry because Huawei Watch 2 sells well,” Yu told TechRadar in February. “We’re not in a hurry, so we’re launching the new watch later.”
