A Hudson resident rescued the driver of a car that crashed into a frozen pond on Sunday. Twenty-five year old Taylor Baker jumped into a frozen pond off 315 Derry Street to pull out Alexander Picard, 24, from his 2017 Ford Fiesta that crashed upside down into the pond.
Baker was treated on the scene for minor injuries and Picard was alive.
According to police, at around 5:30 P.M., police and fire fighters found Picard’s vehicle in its upside-down position in the pond and a 2016 Honda CRV in the southbound breakdown lane of Derry Street with “significant rear end damage.”
The Lowell Sun reported that upon investigation, it was discovered that the owner of the CRV, Chris Columbus, 51, of Litchfield was travelling south on Derry Street when he was rear-ended by Picard’s car which caused the Fiesta to swerve across the northbound lane, roll down an embankment and crash into the pond.
Baker witnessed the crash and immediately jumped in to rescue Picard.
Columbus suffered minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment because he was wearing a seatbelt while Picard was transported to the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua for minor injuries also.
No other passengers were in the vehicle. Picard was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on drugs and was released on personal recognizance bail.
His arraignment at the 9th Circuit Court of Nashua is scheduled on March 13.
