Imagine stepping outside your home and coming face-to-face with a crocodile that is leisurely strolling down the street. This is exactly what happened with residents of a village in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

On Thursday morning, the residents of Kogilban village spotted a huge crocodile parading down the streets with homes on both sides. About half an hour after spotting the crocodile, the residents contacted the forest department.

"It came from the river and walked around for about half-an-hour in an area filled with houses. All of us were surprised but we stayed at a distance and informed the Forest Department," Sudheer, a local resident, told The News Minute.

The forest officials arrived at the scene, and following a 45-minute rescue operation, the crocodile was captured and later released into a river. Forest officials confirmed the crocodile did not cause any harm.

"The Kali river is adjacent to the village and hence this is a habitat of crocodiles. They have made it their home and lay eggs there. Once in a while, they spot an opening and climb over it to reach the streets nearby," Ramu Gouda, a forest official, told The News Minute.

Meanwhile, videos of the incident doing rounds on social media showed the crocodile strolling through the village, with several residents, including children, following the reptile at a distance.

But what caught the attention of the social media users was the crocodile passing by a dog without harming it.

"Cute crocodile didn’t even look at that dog. Seems he is vegetarian," one user commented.

"That poor dog had his/her entire life flash in front of him/her after seeing that crocodile," another person wrote.

"Thank God that dog was spared," wrote a user.

Earlier this week, a crocodile showed up on the doorstep of a family in Sri Lanka, giving the resident a shock of their lives. Wildlife officials were immediately called to the scene. They captured the crocodile and released it in a nearby national park. The video of the rescue has since gone viral on social media.
