Huge Snake Crossing The Road Brings Traffic To Standstill On Busy Street [Watch]
A huge snake crossing a road managed to bring traffic to a standstill on a busy street in India.
The incident took place Sunday night in Kochi, a city in the southern state of Kerala. Commuters stopped their vehicles to witness the 7-foot-long Indian rock python slowly making its way across the busy street.
It took about five minutes for the reptile to cross the road and people waited patiently for it to move off the street completely before restarting their vehicles. Some of them reportedly stood in the middle of the road to ensure the snake is not run over by any vehicle.
Meanwhile, a video of the snake crossing the road has gone viral on Twitter with social media users appreciating the patient commuters waiting to let the reptile pass.
"So good of people for halting traffic and allowing him to cross the road. This is how we must live, give space for wild species to live and avoid disturbing/killing them unnecessarily," one person commented.
"We have hope for us, humans! I appreciate how people waited patiently to let it pass. Spectacular creature," another user wrote.
"Salute to all the human species present there," another user commented.
Some people also pointed that the reptile looked like it "had a nice dinner."
A forest department official told The New Indian Express that python spotting has increased in the city over the past few years.
"We get calls to rescue pythons from the city and surrounding areas two or three times a week. As Kochi has vast marshy land, pythons find it easy to survive. They feed on rodents that are available in plenty here," he told the outlet.
In a similar incident in another part of India, a massive python crossing a busy highway in Mumbai interrupted traffic flow for over an hour. The 10-foot-long Indian rock python then hid under a vehicle and coiled itself around one of the wheels. Snake catchers arrived and captured the reptile after a 30-minute rescue operation, the video of which went viral on social media.
