A family in Australia was heartbroken after they were unable to save their pet kitten from a huge snake that had slithered into their home.

A Facebook video that showed the python devouring the kitten was shared by snake catcher Stuart McKenzie who was called to the Queensland home when the family found the carpet python attacking their small pet.

The family tried to save their kitten by using a broomstick but failed. They later called the snake catcher to separate the python from the small animal so that they could bury it.

“You can see the snake trying to line the cat up so it can try and swallow it but I’m going to separate them because it is a very sad situation,” McKenzie said in the video filmed by him. “This is someone’s pet and they obviously want to be able to bury it”.

McKenzie called it a "sad situation," urging other pet owners to be vigilant and keep animals in their sight.

"Please understand that the snake is just doing what it knows naturally to do and that is to hunt mammals and try and get itself a feed," he wrote on Facebook. “Please be wary that if your cats are allowed to roam the streets at night they are more than likely killing lots of native wildlife and they also may not come home one day as they could get hit by a car or killed by another animal."

Last month, a dog owner's timely intervention saved the life of a canine that was attacked by a carpet python. The video of the incident went viral. The footage showed the python heading out of a nearby bush before wrapping itself around the 9-month-old puppy. When Michelle van Schouwen, from Sunshine Coast, Queensland, saw her pet being attacked, she jumped in to save her puppy with her bare hands.

In November, a 10-week-old puppy was caught by a 6-foot-long python that slithered into a home in Australia. The canine was sleeping when the snake coiled itself around the animal. However, the dog managed to escape after its owners pulled the snake off it.

"We heard a horrible sound and we thought he might have fallen or got stuck so we ran downstairs, and it was like something from a horror movie," Sunshine Coast resident Kelly Morris said, according to ABC News at the time. "There was fluid everywhere, he'd weed and pooed himself and there was blood everywhere."
