A venomous snake was found in the restroom of a clubhouse in an apartment complex, leaving the residents shocked. The incident took place in the southern Indian city of Coimbatore on Jan.1.

The residents of the apartment complex were celebrating New Year at the clubhouse when one of them went to the restroom to find the unexpected slithery guest there. She immediately rushed out of the restroom and raised an alarm following which the residents called the snake catcher.

Ameen, the snake catcher, rushed to the scene and rescued the reptile, a six-foot-long spectacled cobra, before leaving it in the woods. Meanwhile, a video of the rescue operation showed the reptile spreading its hood and hissing at Ameen as he tried to catch it. The video has gone viral on social media.

Speaking to a local daily, the Times of India, Ameen said, “We can see rats where people dump garbage. To capture rats, snakes are often roaming in the garbage. We have to keep our residential areas clean and tidy.”

The incident comes less than two months after a 16-foot-long king cobra was rescued in the same city. Officials with the Forest Department arrived at a private farm after getting reports of snake sighting. The reptile was caught and released into the woods by the officials.
