Hummus Recall 2016: Full List Of Sabra Products Recalled Over Listeria Concerns

Sabra Dipping Company issued a voluntary recall Saturday for some of its hummus products over potential listeria contamination. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the affected products were made prior to Nov. 8 and have a “best before” date up to and including Jan. 23, 2017.

Sabra’s manufacturing facility tested positive for the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause a serious and potentially deadly infection, the FDA announced. The recall does not affect Sabra Organic Hummus and Sabra Guacamole, Sabra Salsa or Sabra Greek Yogurt Dips.

The FDA advised consumers who believed they had purchased contaminated products to dispose of them.

Found in soil, water and some livestock, L. monocytogenes is a bacterial species that causes serious infections. Older people, pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems are at the greatest risk of infection. Healthy people can also suffer from its symptoms, which include fever, a stiff neck, vomiting, weakness and occasionally diarrhea.

This is not the first time the company recalled its products due to listeria contamination. In 2015, Sabra recalled 30,000 cases of its Classic Hummus after traces of the bacteria were found.
