Hurricane Sandy Hits The Caribbean: 10 Photos Of Frankenstorm's Destruction

Hurricane Sandy caused widespread destruction and killed at least 41 people in the Caribbean region late this week.

Sandy is expected to continue traveling northward, and it could be one of the worst storms to hit the U.S. East Coast in decades. Media outlets and weather watchers are calling it “Frankenstorm” and comparing it to the 1991 Perfect Storm, aka the Halloween Nor'easter of 1991.

"We're expecting a large, large storm. The circulation of this storm as it approaches the coast could cover about the eastern third of the United States," Louis Uccellini, director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Centers for Environmental Prediction, told Reuters.

If the Frankenstorm” hits New York, the city could shut down its mass-transit system ahead of time to prevent people from being trapped in underground floods caused by the latest perfect storm.
