Hyderabad Court Directs Police to File FIR against Vidya Balan for Obscenity

A city court in Hyderabad has directed a local police station, at Nallakunta, to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, on charges of obscenity with relation to her recent film, The Dirty Picture.

The FIR has been directed following a petition by S.K.Azad, an advocate, under sections 292 and 294 of the Indian Penal Code and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the petitioner alleges the posters and hoardings of the film were spoiling the minds of the people and causing harm to society. The court has reportedly ordered the police to take action against the public display of posters and similar promotional material.
