Jazz Jennings needs to prove herself to Harvard before she can attend the Ivy League school.
Ahead of the “I Am Jazz” Season 7 premiere this Tuesday, teaser trailers for the new installment were released online. One of them showed the 21-year-old trans activist having a conversation with her parents about a possible internship at her doctor’s office.
“So you know I visited with Dr. Gallagher and I called to follow up, somehow the conversation came up that for school I need to have 6 months of productivity — I need to get all these hours to show Harvard that I haven't been just laying on my a-- doing nothing,” Jazz tells her parents, Greg and Jeanette, in an exclusive sneak peek released via People.
According to Jazz, her doctor told her that they were actually looking for trans representation in the office. She added that her doctor offered her a trial run for an internship, and if things go well, then she could work there for months before pursuing Harvard.
“Interning at Dr. Gallagher's office would be amazing. I want to make this happen so bad, because not only does it cover the hours I need for Harvard but I also get to help other people by sharing my story and making them feel comfortable as patients. It's a win-win,” she tells the camera in the trailer.
In another teaser clip released via E! News, Jazz reiterated the need to prove herself to the Ivy League school before she’s allowed to carry a full schedule in the upcoming semester. Jazz previously opted to delay college because she wanted to work on herself first.
“I really, really want to be sitting in a classroom this fall, like this is everything I have been waiting for,” she says in a confessional. “I need to prove to Harvard that I could carry a full schedule, so I have to work or volunteer for 40 hours a week, showing that I can be productive.”
Apart from her internship, Jazz said she was also required to submit a letter from her therapist telling the school that she has been stable for the past six months and she’s ready to embark on a new academic journey.
“I Am Jazz” Season 7 premieres Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
