Former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has asked Jadon Sancho “to not put Manchester United above Dortmund” before adding he would never play for the 20-time Premier League champions because his “heart would not allow it”.

The 26-year-old played for Liverpool between 2014 and 2018 before leaving the Merseyside club as a free agent. He moved to Juventus but failed to impress the Italian side, who loaned him off to Dortmund during the January transfer window earlier this year. In eight games for the German side so far, Can has scored one goal.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, Sancho has been heavily linked with a move to Man Utd as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly has been desperate to add the Englishman in his squad as he can play a wide attacking role.

While Can appreciated his Dortmund teammate’s performances saying there is no doubt why Sancho has been a hot interest among the big European sides but he also mentioned that he sees no reason why the 20-year-old England national must switch from one big European club to another at the moment.

“I see no reason to put Manchester United above Borussia Dortmund. Not from a sporting side and not because of the appeal. I'd tell him to stay put and let's play together forever. Jadon has class that not a lot of players possess. I noticed that fairly quickly. He's enormously important for us,” Can told SportBild.

In the same interview, Can was asked if he could ever play for Man Utd in the near future. Responding to that, the German player made it clear that his previous team, Liverpool’s, rivalry with Man Utd has made his career impossible now.

“I would never play for United because of my time at Liverpool. My heart would not allow it. The rivalry between those clubs is huge."

"When I came to Dortmund in the winter, I compared a lot of things here with Liverpool. The clubs are really similar, have a familiar environment and unique fans. And both love Jurgen Klopp!” added Can, who also played for Bayern Munch earlier in his career.
