Ian Somerhalder had a lot of fans feeling emotional after sharing a throwback snap from the set of “The Vampire Diaries.”
The 42-year-old Hollywood actor took to Instagram Thursday to share a photo of him munching on some snacks and reading the script while lounging on a chair on the set of his hit TV series. In the caption, Somerhalder revealed that what he was doing in the picture was his routine on the show.
“This was me. For 8 YEARS. Every day. Studying lines and munching,” the actor, who played Damon Salvatore in the CW series, wrote.
Many of his followers, who were also big fans of the show, quickly flooded the post with emotional messages as they expressed how much they missed the supernatural drama.
“STOP I’M GONNA CRY,” one wrote.
“I miss Damon so much,” another commented with crying emoji.
“Time flies so fast. 8 years seems short. I miss TVD so bad I’m crying,” a different user added.
“The Vampire Diaries” was Somerhalder’s last long-running TV series. It premiered on Sept. 10, 2009, and aired its finale on March 10, 2017.
Aside from its storyline and cast, the show made big waves when its lead stars, Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, 32, dated while the series was airing. The two were in a relationship for three years and continued to work together after the split until Dobrev decided to leave following Season 6.
Somerhalder went on to marry “Twilight” actress Nikki Reed in 2015, the same year Dobrev departed “TVD.” However, Dobrev clarified that her co-star and ex-boyfriend’s marriage was never the reason why she left. She even insisted that she’s happy for Somerhalder and Reed at the time.
“The Vampire Diaries” went on to produce two more seasons before wrapping up. In the post-Dobrev installments, the story arc involving Somerhalder’s character focused more on Damon’s friendship with Bonnie Bennett (played by Kat Graham), who was the best friend of Dobrev’s character, Elena Gilbert.
Throughout its run, the show managed to record steady ratings as it also formed a solid fan base. In fact, the series has an 86% rating and 69% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
