Ice Cream Sandwich Release Date: How To Leak Android 4.0 On Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, UK Users Get Update

In the UK, some Galaxy S2 owners are finally getting their hands on the new Ice Cream Sandwich update, according to CNET UK. SIM-free devices users are now able to download the Android 4.0 software as of April 17^th.

Samsung UK has been working as hard as possible over the last few weeks to get Android 4.0 rolled out to all our Galaxy S II customers, the company said in a statement. We can confirm that 'Open Market' [SIM-free] and all network upgrades are now complete except for Orange and T-Mobile which will follow as soon as possible, pending software testing and approvals.

As the name insinuates, SIM free means that the device does not contain a SIM card. This means that the owner is not tied or committed to a particular network.

The Korea-based company also posted on its Facebook page to alert fans of the recently released upgrade. The complete schedule of Ice Cream Sandwich rollouts has been updated according to YouMobile.org, and U.S. carriers are still pending the release. However, owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, which is the version of the smartphone boasting LTE, may be in for a sweet treat. The update has reportedly leaked through a ROM, according to the mobile tip site.

Screenshots that have surfaced on the website show the Ice Cream Sandwich interface, including the updated home screen with its widgets and apps. An image of the screen revealing information about the phone also displays the model number and Android version, providing further evidence to back up its claim.

YouMobile also wrote that once users know how to root their device, they are then able to download the upgraded software directly to their smartphones.

There is also a root solution already, so you will not be losing any functionality if you make the switch, the website read, assuring readers that their content would not be lost after the transition.

The download was initially leaked in a RootzWiki forum at the end of March, and is only compatible with AT&T. The Ice Cream Sandwich update has not yet been leaked for other carrier services.

The full list of areas that have already received the Android 4.0 software are as follows: Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Korea, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and most recently the UK. It is important to note that these countries do not have the update available on all carriers or services, but only on specified providers.

But it seems not all Samsung users are pleased with the way the company is handling its ICS rollout.

I do think an apology and promise it will not happen again is needed now, read one post on the Samsung Mobile's UK Facebook page. Oh and a commitment to feeding better information to those who are supposed to be their front line customer service personnel would not go amiss.

The new Ice Cream sandwich is said to boast features such as an entirely new typeface, virtual buttons in the system bar and resizable widgets.
