Idaho Murders Update: Suspect's White Hyundai Drove Near Crime Scene After Killing Victims
The White Hyundai Elantra owned by the suspect in the Nov. 13 murders of four University of Idaho students may have driven near the crime scene after the victims' deaths, according to a new video.
New footage published on Monday shows a white sedan driving near the Moscow off-campus home where Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Madison Mogen, 21; Ethan Chapin, 20; and Xana Kernodle, 20, were stabbed to death.
In the video, a vehicle matching the description of murder suspect Bryan Kohberger's 2015 White Hyundai Elantra can be seen on Nov. 14 at the top of the frame as police investigated the area.
However, due to the car's distance, it is difficult to determine the make and model of the vehicle.
According to the unsealed affidavit, Kohberger, 28, returned to the crime scene at least once after the murders. His vehicle was also seen speeding away from the area near the crime scene.
Investigators noted that on the morning of the murders, Kohberger was seen passing by the victims' home four times.
Reports of Kohberger's additional return to the crime scene come after attorney Alan Dershowitz, who was part of OJ Simpson's legal team, claimed the suspect's lawyers could pursue several defense tactics in their client's trial.
Although prosecutors appear to have compelling evidence against Kohberger, Dershowitz said the suspect's attorneys could try to "explain away the physical, indisputable evidence in a way that presents the possibility of innocence or at least reasonable doubt."
Dershowitz also suggested the defense may try to shift attention away from Kohberger.
"Often putting the police on trial, putting the prosecution on trial, and deflecting attention away from the defendant toward other people can be an approach that's worth pursuing as well," Dershowitz stated.
Kohberger was arrested on Dec. 30 on four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. He is expected to return to court on Jan. 12 for a status hearing.
