Iggy Azalea Spotted Wearing Engagement Ring During iHeartRadio Music Awards; Opens Up About Nick Young Cheating Scandal

Iggy Azalea isn’t letting the drama surrounding Nick Young keep her from doing what she loves. On Sunday, just days after video surfaced of the Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard admitting to being unfaithful, the Australian rapper took the stage at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Awards. After wowing the audience with her rendition of “Team,” Azalea chatted about her powerful lyrics — and relationship woes.

In an Interview with E! News, Azalea — who was at the award show sporting her engagement ring, despite her future hubby's absence — was asked about the meaning behind her latest single. She explained to Jason Kennedy that much of the song was inspired by her “turbulent 2015,” but did not go into details about what caused her so much grief. Azalea claimed that the message behind her catchy lyrics is that people don’t need the approval of anyone but themselves. She urged listeners to look inward. The Billboard Music award-winner was then asked about dealing with drama in 2016 — which there’s been no shortage of for her. The “Fancy” rapper assured E! that she applies similar thinking to her current situation, revealing the importance of having “your own back.”

“My motto is like the song says: Have your own back. We worry a lot about people liking our pages or how many followers we have. You’ve got to worry about your own thing,” she said.

Young, 30, has spoken out about the scandal as well. During a pre-game press conference on March 30, he acknowledged the video, telling news outlets he and teammate D’Angelo Russell — who shot the clip — “need to sit down and talk about it.” He added that there was nothing he could do about the footage having gone public or his shocking admission.

“What happened is what happened. We’ve got to work on it,” he said.

The NBA star and Azalea are said to be in a difficult spot in regards to their impending marriage after the footage began making rounds. TMZ reported that Young has been doing everything in his power to get back “on good terms” with his fiancée. He is reportedly hurt by the entire incident and has been going out of his way to tell those around him how much he loves Azalea — despite having admitted to being with a 19 year old at a club during summer 2015. Young is believed to have reached out to lawyers in the hopes that they can rectify this situation.

Azalea first addressed Russell’s video on Twitter. She joked that she’d seen his name trending, adding that she “liked his film.” She then thanked him for what he’d done and returned to being silent for some time after. Her fiancé, on the other hand, has avoided the topic on social media.

The video in question is thought to have been shot several months ago, though it only gained traction on social media on March 29. In it Young is seen lying down talking to Russell while watching television. The 19-year-old questions Young about an incident involving a girl in a club, clarifying her age and the timeframe in which the incident occurred. He also reportedly asked Young about potentially hooking up with Amber Rose, rapper Wiz Khalifa’s former wife. Young explains to him that he could never be with her because “she knows my girl.”
