Important Facts About Harold Camping, the False Prophet?
Harold Egbert Camping was born July 19, 1921. He is a Christian radio broadcaster and president of California-based Family Radio, a religious broadcasting network that spans more than 150 outlets in the United States. It was formed in 1958 as non-profit ministry. In 1978, Camping sold the original station KEAR (97.3 FM) to CBS Inc. for two million dollars.
Earlier in his life, he earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church until 1988. Camping is married with seven children and 24 grandchildren.
In 1970, Camping published The Biblical Calendar of History, in which he dated the creation of the world to the year 11,013 BC and the Noah's Flood to 4990 BC.
In 1992, Camping published a book named 1994?, in which he said that Christ's return would probably be on September 6, 1994. In that publication, he also proclaimed that 2011 could be the end of the world. When his prediction failed in 1994, he claimed error in calculation and set 2011 as the date.
His predicted the Rapture would happen on May 21, 2011 and that God would subsequently thoroughly destroy the Earth and the universe five months later on October 21, 2011.
Camping said the 2011 Rapture is 722,500 days after the crucifixion of Christ and 7,000 years after Noah's Flood in 4990 BC.
Now that his second prediction has failed once again, his ministry may be in serious jeopardy.
