India's WPI for food articles rises by 0.4%
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India's Wholesale Price Index inflation for food and fuel, power, light & lubricants has rose by 0.4% for the week ended 17th July as compared to 307.5 for the previous week.
According to an official data released on Thursday, the index for 'Food Articles' group rose by 0.6% to 299.3 from 297.6 for the previous week due to higher prices of fish-marine, gram and milk and mutton, urad, wheat, tea and maize.
However, the prices of fish-inland and rice declined.
The index for 'Non-Food Articles' group rose by 0.2% to 288.6 from 288.1 for the previous week due to higher prices of rape & mustard seed and sunflower and raw silk, raw jute, groundnut seed and copra. However, the prices of raw cotton declined.
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis, stood at 14.50% for the week ended 17 July as compared to 16.48% for the previous week and 8.18% during the corresponding week of the previous year.
Fuel, Power, Light & Lubricants The index for this major group declined by 0.1% to 386.3 from 386.7 for the previous week due to lower prices of naphtha, light diesel oil and furnace oil.
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis stood at 14.29% for the week ended 17/ July 2010 over 18 July 2009 as compared to 14.27% for the previous week and10.63 percent during the corresponding week of the previous year.
