Indonesian Policeman Who Found YouTube Fame with Bollywood Song Is Fired (Video)
An Indonesian policeman, who shot to fame after a YouTube video of him lip-synching and dancing to a Bollywood song went viral, has been fired from his job after failing to report to work.
Norman Kamaru has reportedly been absent from work for several months, following the uploading of a video of him shimmying to Chaiyya Chaiyya, from Dil Se(1998) in April. The video showed him, in his police uniform, dancing and singing to the song.
He may think that his new career is much better than being a policeman, but he's mistaken, National Police spokesman Saud Usman Nasution said. With his creative skills, he could have helped the police interact better with people, he added.
Kamaru, who had a $100,000 music deal under his belt, tried to resign from the force in July. However, his resignation was rejected, citing a 10-year contract. Now, however, that he has been dismissed, he said it was a relief to discard his khaki uniform.
