City-building strategy game “Industries of Titan” reached Steam’s top sellers page within the first day of its release as an early access title, making it one of the platform’s latest indie hits.
“Industries of Titan” is a unique industrial city-building simulator that incorporates the elements of a few different games into one.
The game is set in Titan, one of Saturn’s moons, which players must colonize and industrialize entirely in the name of profit. Players will act as the overseer of the colony and will be in charge of managing all aspects of their city, from waste management to city planning and even territorial defense.
Rebel forces and rival corporations will occasionally attack the player’s cities, decimating structures until nothing is left. Players must engage these hostiles in ship-based combat to protect their investments and keep the colony safe.
In terms of city-building aspects, “Industries of Titan” features both large-scale and small-scale buildings. Players can enter certain structures they build on the world and customize the interiors of each one. They can place all manners of machinery like production lines, power generators and habitation zones to give each structure a clear and defined purpose. This mechanic is somewhat similar to “Factorio” or “Satisfactory.”
On the outside, players will have to carefully plan their city layouts based on resource locations and the placement of other buildings to ensure efficient movement between city sectors. Additionally, players must satisfy the needs of their citizens as well as their benefactors in order to make any progress.
As for combat, the game shares some similarities with “FTL.” Ship designs and interior layouts can be designed by hand, giving players the ability to create the perfect combat vessel by minimizing weak points and maximizing firepower. Powerful defense cannons can be placed on or around cities to offer a static defense against invaders.
“Industries of Titan” features fully-voiced NPC advisers and a Timed Contract mode that lets players compete against each other in leaderboard-based contests. The game is currently available in early access and is expected to remain in development for roughly one year until its official 1.0 release.
