Infant Dies Days After Choking On Jelly, Went Into Coma And Suffered Multiple Organ Failure
In an unfortunate incident, an infant from the Philippines died, a week after he choked on a jelly,
According to local reports, the unidentified one-year-old boy was eating jelly at his home on Nov. 15, when he choked. His parents immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. However, the doctors managed to resuscitate him after half an hour.
However, the baby soon went into coma due to no blood flow to his brain. In the next few days, he suffered from multiple organ failure as well as blood haemorrhage.
A viral Facebook post stated, “He was rushed to the hospital last Friday because he was choked while in the course of eating jelly ace. He was declared dead on arrival but miraculously revived after 26 minutes. For this, a general rule of thumb is that brain cells begin to die after approximately 4-6 minutes of no blood-flow. After around 10 minutes, those cells will cease functioning, and be effectively dead. Because of this, he's been in coma for 5 days now and his organs are slowly failing. He is having heart failure, low haemoglobin count, blood haemorrhage, high sugar level, etc.”
The baby eventually succumbed on Nov. 22.
