Infographic: Disney+ Races To More Than 50M Subscribers
Disney+ has been off to a flying start. Less than six months after launching in North America and the Netherlands on November 12, the Netflix competitor already has 54.5 million paid subscribers, the company announced during Tuesday’s conference call with shareholders.
That’s up more than 100% from 26.5 million at the end of December, when Disney+ was still only available in North America, the Netherlands and Oceania. As our chart based on Disney’s official disclosures shows, subscriber growth really took off again after the streaming service launched in several European markets in late March.
Even though that launch came at a challenging time, Disney’s European launch may have benefitted from stay-at-home orders, at least in countries not as badly affected as Spain and Italy. As of May 6, 2020, Disney+ is available in the following countries and territories: Australia, Austria, Canada, Channel Islands, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.
