‘Injustice 2’ DLC Coming Soon, Says Ed Boon
NetherRealm Studios has slowly been revealing more characters for “Injustice 2,” but now the studio might be announcing DLC details soon. Ed Boon, the creative director behind the upcoming fighting game, has teased that information on DLCs will be coming soon.
“For those wondering or asking… ‘Injustice 2’ DLC info coming soon,” Boon stated on Twitter. “We suspect you will like what you hear.” Boon’s tweet also included a GIF of Andy Richter and Conan O’Brien, which might suggest that “Injustice 2” will be making an appearance on the late night talkshow “Conan” on TBS.
O’Brien has a segment called “Clueless Gamer” on his show where the late-night talkshow host and comedian plays through major upcoming video games. "Injustice: Gaods Among Us" was also featured during that segment back in 2013. Boon himself is somewhat of an internet troll constantly teasing fans with information on upcoming games, as pointed out by Game Rant. It seems like “Clueless Gamer” is a funny and perfect way to further show off and promote “Injustice 2.”
In another tweet, Boon also asked his followers to vote on whether or not they want to see characters from 2013’s “Injustice: Gods Among Us” make a return for the “Injustice 2” DLCs. His followers have the option to vote for “Yes” or “No! All new fighters,” but there’s no option to mix in both.
There are already numerous speculations as to what DLC characters will be included for “Injustice 2.” Back in November 2016, Boon set up two polls where users can vote for their favorite “Mortal Kombat” and non-Mortal Kombat guest character. Sub-Zero and Image Comics’ Spawn where the winners of those polls, and has led some fans to believe that both might appear in “Injustice 2.”
Around that same time, the NetherRealm Studios creative director also asked fans if they wanted to see characters from Alan Moore’s “Watchmen” comics. There’s a huge possibility of this happening as DC Comics’ current Rebirth storyline, “The Button,” features a mystery involving the “Watchmen.”
For reference, the DLC characters for “Injustice: Gods Among Us” included Lobo, Batgirl, General Zod, Martian Hunter, Zatanna and longstanding “Motal Kombat” fighter Scorpion. NetherRealm also released compatibility packs which included alternate skins to the base characters of “Gods Among Us,” while also giving players who didn’t buy the Season pass or DLC characters the ability to play with their friends that did.
For “Injustice 2,” NetherRealm has added a new level of customization with an all new Gear System. Players will be be able to customize the looks of their favorite characters, while also adjusting their abilities to fit the player’s play style. It’s possible that the upcoming DLCs for “Injustice 2” might include exclusive Gear that will only change a character’s looks and not its abilities.
In other “Injustice 2” news, NetherRealm officially revealed that the Joker is returning for the upcoming fighting game. A short gameplay was published online showing off the Joker’s new abilities, including his new Super ability involving an electric chair. NetherRealm also shared the first gameplay footage showing Darkseid, who’s a playable character for those who pre-order “Injustice 2.”
"Injustice 2" is scheduled for release on May 16 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
