‘Injustice 2’ For iOS, Android Confirmed By Director Ed Boon
A trailer for the mobile version of “Injustice 2” landed the web yesterday, and it showed 12 minutes of gameplay footage while also confirming the still unannounced characters. This Thursday, the game’s director officially confirmed that the upcoming title will indeed be arriving to iOS and Android devices.
The footage that was leaked yesterday showed that Cyborg and Scarecrow will be part of the “Injustice 2” roster. At the time, there was speculation that both characters might not be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
The leaked “Injustice 2” footage also appears to be a finished product simply waiting to be released. The console version of the game is scheduled to be released on May 16. It’s possible that the mobile version will hit app stores on or even before that date.
Since the trailer was leaked, director Ed Boon took to Twitter and confirmed that the game will arrive on mobile devices. Boon also included screenshots for the game and said that the app will come with “new features, modes & all new combat system,” and he also promised to give out more information “soon.”
What’s really interesting about Boon’s tweet is that he mentioned that “Injustice 2” on mobile will come with a new combat system. This might have been a response to fans’ criticism of the mobile version of “Mortal Kombat X,” which featured near identical controls with the mobile version of “Injustice: Gods Among Us.”
The mobile version of “Injustice 2” has actually soft-launched in the Philippines and is available now on the Apple App Store, as originally reported by Jared Nelson from TouchArcade. According to Nelson, the game has kept the traditional triple tap combos and the swipe gestures for lunging attacks. However, players will also be able to throw a projectile with a swipe back+tap gesture. High and low attacks can also be performed with swipe up and swipe down gestures.
This week saw a lot of reveals and teasers for “Injustice 2.” Developer NetherRealm Studios released a trailer showing off Catwoman, Cheetah and Poison Ivy in action, as well as an in-depth gameplay walkthrough of Black Canary through IGN. Swamp Thing was also announced to be part of the roster as well.
