Inside Kate Middleton, Prince William’s Apartment 1A Before Makeover
Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Apartment 1A home was already beautiful before the makeover.
Just recently, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s home Kensington Palace got a very special makeover. Historic Royal Palaces commissioned an update to the palace where members of the royal family reside including Prince William, Middleton and Princess Eugenie to celebrate Queen Victoria’s 200th birthday.
Prior to the renovation, a glimpse of Apartment 1A was shown to the world when the Cambridges shared photos of their home during Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s visit in 2016. Photographers were invited to the event and a selection of pictures where taken in one room.
Based on the photos, Apartment 1A has a large room with a light and airy decor and a collection of white couches that were decorated with gold and floral cushions. The room has white walls with large paintings and many lamps.
It feels cozy due to the warm lights from the white lamps that can be seen in every table and corner. There are also large bouquets flowers dotted around and a gold and white armchair and side table. The room focuses on cream tones, floral prints and traditional decorations.
According to Express, before Prince William and Middleton moved into Apartment 1A, they lived in Norfolk and only moved back to London when Prince George approached school age. The four-story property has 20 rooms and underwent a renovation that took 18 months to finish at a cost of $5.44 million.
The renovation reportedly included new heating, electrics and plastering. Nearly everything inside was stripped out and the house was given a new roof.
In July, Hello Magazine! shared new snaps of Kensington Palace after the recent renovation. A semi-permanent exhibition called “Victoria: A Royal Childhood” has opened within the palace with rooms designed to re-create the decor during Queen Victoria’s childhood.
The royal palace curators carried out an extensive research into the decorative schemes and transformed the palace into Queen Victoria’s childhood home. The photos show that the palace now has custom period carpets from the Georgian period. The design features intricate patterns that complement the wallpapers, curtain textiles and room colors.
