New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer has purchased a $5.4 million Hamptons-inspired mansion in Long Island, New York, according to reports.
Scherzer and his wife, Erica, paid somewhere between $5.2 million and $5.3 million for the home, which is less than the listing price, The New York Post reported, citing unnamed sources.
The sale of the home still remains pending on the Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty listing posted by Tara M. Fox and Lois Kirschenbaum, but it is expected to close soon, according to the insider.
The source claimed the couple is scheduled to move into the residence next year.
The estate was shown to have gone into contract in late October, the outlet noted.
Sitting on a 3.84-acre lot in Brookville, the residence features an "expansive terrace, lush landscaped gardens with tranquil water features," such as a saltwater pool with a jacuzzi, an outdoor shower and a separate pool house with its own kitchen and changing room, according to the listing.
The fully furnished main house includes five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and one half-bath. It also has with a formal living room, an open-concept dining and entertainment room, a mini-gym, a media room, an office, a recreation/game room and two luxe principal suites with windows overlooking the vast green-land area. The home is equipped with clean white oak flooring.
The kitchen, which has a sleek black-and-gray design, is complete with Wolf and Gaggeneau appliances. It comes with a huge island table that could also be used as an informal dining area for quick meals.
Aside from its interior features, one of the home's best features is its wide recreational area for outdoor activities, where the professional baseball player could hold a bonfire party or play catch-and-throw with his three children, daughters Brooke and Kacey and son Derek.
The purchase comes after the 38-year-old eight-time All-Star and 2019 World Series champ with the Washington Nationals signed in late November a three-year contract with the New York Mets worth $130 million, the New York Post reported.
Scherzer is considered one of the oldest players in the league to reach a deal over $100 million.
The shingle-style home would be the perfect place for Scherzer's expanding family, as he and his wife Erica are expecting their fourth child together, another girl. They made the pregnancy announcement via an Instagram post in August.
Two years ago, the couple also purchased a $9.7 million mansion in Jupiter, Florida. It has five bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The home also features a 180-foot water frontage and spans nearly 8,000 square feet.
