Inside Queen Elizabeth’s Majestic Windsor Castle Where Meghan Markle, Harry Did Photoshoots
Queen Elizabeth II’s Windsor Castle is definitely designed for royals.
The Sun shared snaps of Windsor Castle. The photos show that the monarch’s second home is filled with ornate furnishings, posh embroidered carpets and gold detailed carvings on the ceiling and walls.
In addition, the castle has three enormous drawing rooms and each is defined by a particular color. First, there’s the Green Drawing Room that has an emerald and gold design. Eagle-eyed royal fans may find the room familiar because it’s where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took the official photos of baby Archie during his christening in July. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also had their wedding photos taken in the same room.
The Green Drawing Room is filled with green flowered wallpaper, multiple pieces of furniture and decorative Axminster carpet. It is used as a reception space to host smaller state events and family occasions.
Next is the White Drawing Room. The room is decorated by Morel & Seddon furniture and is filled with family portraits and fine art. The lavish room is the monarch’s favorite for when she’s receiving guests since it’s where she usually welcomes ambassadors and diplomats when they visit Windsor Castle.
Queen Elizabeth II welcomed former New Zealand prime minister John Key and former Papua New Guinea prime minister Peter O’Neill in the same room in 2016 and 2015, respectively. It’s where Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank had their wedding photos taken, too.
The other room is the Crimson Drawing Room, the Queen’s favorite for private events. It has stunning gold and scarlet red walls, carpet and furniture. It also offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding Berkshire estate.
Although Windsor Castle is a grand place to stay in, the Queen’s primary residence is Buckingham Palace. She has a staggering $124 million stamp collection there and loves to show it to her visitors.
“The Queen loves showing her stamp collection to visitors, say heads of state who stay at Buckingham Palace,” royal expert Phil Dampier told Fabulous Digital. “It is one of her pride and joys, not only because she owns some of the world’s most valuable stamps, but also because she has built on a family treasure and feels she has done her father and previous monarchs who owned it proud.”
