A 33-year-old Instagram model from Houston, Texas was found dead in her home over the weekend, police said Monday.
The body of Janae Gagnier, also known on social media as Miss Mercedes Morr, was discovered at her home in the Cortland Apartments in the 5200 block of Pointe West Circle at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Click2Houston reported, citing a statement released by the Richmond Police Department.
Authorities also found the dead body of 34-year-old Kevin Alexander Accorto at the scene, a report by KHOU 11 said. The Florida resident, who was suspected of killing Gagnier, was found to have killed himself with "multiple sharp force trauma," the medical examiner said.
Officers, who were doing a welfare check on Gagnier, allegedly found no signs of forced entry at the residence.
Police initially believed Gagnier's death had been a murder-suicide, but the cause of death was later revealed to be strangulation and the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner Office ruled it a homicide, according to an update by KHOU 11.
Investigators believed there was no relationship between Gagnier and Accorto, as per ABC 13.
Gagnier's sister, London, claimed the model had been a victim of a stalker.
"She wasn't robbed. It was just a stalker from outta state who'd been stalking her," London wrote on Instagram.
Gagnier, who has 2.6 million followers on the social media platform, was said to have been having "an amazing time" last Thursday when her sister and mother checked in on her.
"Yesterday was the worst day of my life... my heart is gone. My soul is gone," Gagnier's sister said.
"I’m so happy we said we loved you. I’m so happy I got to see your face one last time," she added.
Followers also left messages on Gagnier's last Instagram post, which was dated Aug. 18.
"I can't believe it," one commenter wrote with a broken heart emoji.
"[Y]ou did not deserve this at all. You had your whole life ahead of you," another stated.
Gagnier's neighbors claimed the apartment complex was "quiet and safe," according to ABC 13.
"It would be kind of surprising to know that this was an intruder, someone that broke into the house because I wouldn't think that would happen here," resident Field Ledford was quoted as saying.
