Interest In ‘Resident Evil 2’ Remake Leads To Capcom Asking Fans About It
Popular video game publisher Capcom has asked fans for their honest opinions on the possibility of a “Resident Evil 2” remake. The question is an interesting one, as Capcom has released an HD remake of the original “Resident Evil” a few years ago. The publisher also recently revealed that “Resident Evil 0” would be coming to current-gen consoles next year, after years of being a Nintendo Gamecube exclusive.
Capcom asked the question on the official “Resident Evil” Facebook page, which had over 10,000 comments as of this writing. Most of the comments seem to be a variation of yes, so there is obvious interest to see a high definition remake of the first “Resident Evil” sequel in a current-gen console.
The timing of the question is reportedly a bit suspicious, as Polygon reported that a fan-made remake of “Resident Evil 2” was in the works called “Resident Evil Reborn,” which is using the Unreal 4 Engine. The project is still in development, though various videos of the fan-made game were released and have received positive attention from the “Resident Evil” fan base so far.
“Resident Evil 2” was considered by many to be one of the best horror games for the original PlayStation, as well as one of the most definitive games of the franchise. The game introduced fans to Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield and Ada Wong, all of who have proven to be fan-favorites in the “Resident Evil” series. All of these characters have since made appearances in other games, most recently in “Resident Evil 6” for Leon and Ada, while Claire was last seen in “Resident Evil: Revelations 2.”
The popularity of “Resident Evil 2” led to it being ported to multiple consoles, including the Sega Dreamcast and the Nintendo Gamecube. The game is also available as a PS One classic digital download for the PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network.
Whether this sudden Facebook survey leads to a full-blown “Resident Evil 2” HD remake remains unknown. Considering how Capcom has made game remakes a priority as of late, this one seems like a no-brainer for the company.
