Intermittent Fasting is also known as IF, and by far, one of the world’s most popular method to lose weight and improve health.
Can this be considered as diet?
By definition, a diet refers to food and drink a person regularly takes or consumes. The same is also defined as a habitual nourishment or an eating and/or drinking regimen sparingly done to reduce one’s weight. Meanwhile, Healthline describes Intermittent Fasting as an eating pattern.
The most common IF method, according to the health news outlet, entails the 16/8 method, Eat-Stop-Eat and the 5:2 method. The most popular method, reportedly, is the 16/8 wherein it involves an 8-hour eating period and 16 hours fasting. For example, if the eating window period is between 9 in the morning until 6 in the evening, the fasting window period will be between 6 in the evening to 9 in the morning.
The Eat-Stop-Eat method reportedly involves a once or twice a week fasting for 24 hours. For example, not eating dinner on a Monday until dinner on a Tuesday.
As for the 5:2 method, one can reportedly eat his or her regular meal for 5 days but limit him or herself in a 500 to 600-calorie intake for 2 non-consecutive within the week.
There are numerous health benefits one can gain from doing Intermittent Fasting. Among which are weight loss, reduction of bad cholesterol, may help in preventing cancer, anti-aging effect and reduce inflammation triggers. However, every person is different. While this works well with others, it may not work with some.
It is, with great emphasis, advised to consult your doctor first before trying this eating pattern or any dietary methods.
