INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY PREVIEW: United States vs. Paraguay (Tonight, 8:00 PM EST; TV: FSC)
The United States will look to build off their tie against Argentina at New Meadowlands Stadium as well as gain some momentum heading into Gold Cup play when they face Paraguay tonight at LP Field in Nashville.
Against Argentina, the U.S. managed a 1-1 tie after a poacher goal by 18-year-old forward Juan Agudelo in the 59th minute.
Tonight, the Yanks won't be facing Lionel Messi, but will take on a talented Paraguay team.
We knew in this double fixture date that we were playing against two very good teams, said head coach Bob Bradley after the Argentina match. Paraguay, as we know, is organized and has some very talented players. The turnaround is quick with the Saturday to Tuesday (schedule) so we'll think about some different changes and that certainly includes some of the younger players.
Paraguay is led by two quality strikers. Lucas Barrios has scored 30 goals in 56 games for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, and Oscar Cardozo has 65 goals in102 games for Portuguese club Benfica.
Paraguay is coming off a 3-1 loss to Mexico in Oakland, California, on Saturday.
The U.S. will have 13 players from the team that went to the World Cup in 2010. Edson Buddle was sent back to Germany, so aside from the former Galaxy forward, it will be the same roster from the Argentina game
This is the last match for the Yanks before playing Canada on June 7th at Ford Field.
