International Homeless Animals Day, which is observed on Aug. 20 every year, is a thoughtful reminder that adopting a stray animal serves a great social cause.

Homeless animals are forced to live on the streets for a number of reasons. Some of them are abandoned by their owners, while some are born into homelessness. Whichever is the case, it's always heartbreaking to see them struggle for the basic necessities to live, let alone a place to call home or someone to love them.

In 1992, the International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR) introduced the day to voice their support for the homeless animals. The day has been celebrated annually ever since then, having been marked by events like adopt-a-thons and dog walks.

Like any domesticated pet, homeless animals deserve medical support, protection, and a dignified living condition. However, the shelters that are working to provide them all sometimes are at capacity, which is why a large number of animals are put up for adoption.

Those that aren't stranger to a pet's love, will know how very unfair it is for them to be abandoned like that. Their lives are far from easy, but they can live their best and healthiest life if someone adopts them.
