The Internet Was Convinced Donald Trump Would Pardon Joe Exotic, But They Were Wrong
After Donald Trump revealed he planned to pardon someone who is “very, very important” on Tuesday, Joe Exotic’s name began trending on Twitter.
The subject of the Netflix documentary “Tiger King” is currently in the midst of serving his 22-year prison sentence after being found guilty of attempting to have Carole Baskin murdered and several other wildlife-related charges.
During a conversation with reporters on Air Force One while on his way back to Washington, Trump stated that he would pardon someone “very, very important,” but he insisted it wouldn’t be his former national security adviser Michael Flynn or NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
While Flynn was accused of making false statements to the FBI, Snowden, who is currently living in Russia, leaked classified information regarding the NSA’s domestic and international surveillance operations.
Since Trump announced the two high profile cases would not be candidates to be pardoned, the public flocked to Twitter, convinced that Exotic would be released from prison.
Some people believe Trump may pardon Exotic in an attempt to earn votes in the presidential election. “If Trump pardons Joe Exotic he is extremely desperate,” Twitter user wrote.
Another person added, “If Trump pardons Joe Exotic today and brings him up with him at the RNC, we can kiss our chances goodbye. Lol Biden won’t recover from that.”
Meanwhile, one person slammed the President for failing to focus on the state of the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Trump is focusing on pardoning maybe Joe Exotic but forgetting that thousands of Americans are struggling to survive,” the individual wrote.
However, it turns out the internet was wrong. On Tuesday, Trump announced he would pardon Susan B. Anthony, who was arrested and fined for voting as a woman in 1872. In Rochester, New York, Anthony was convicted of violating the law that only permitted men to vote and refused to pay the fine.
The Baltimore Sun reported that Trump would sign “a full and complete pardon” on Tuesday, which marks the 100-year anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
In the past, Trump has pardoned former NYPD Commissioner Bernie Kerik and former United States Army Officer Clint Lorance.
