iOS 13 Alerts If An iPhone 11 Model Doesn’t Have A Genuine Display
Apple announced that iOS 13 will notify iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max users if their devices do not have genuine Apple displays.
Those who need to get their iPhones repaired for whatever damage are always advised to go to an Apple Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or send their damaged iPhones over to an Apple Repair Center. This assures iPhone users that their devices will be repaired by Apple-certified technicians using Apple-certified parts, resulting in topnotch performance.
Those who get their iPhones repaired by technicians that aren’t certified by Apple risk getting their devices repaired using non genuine Apple parts. This includes getting iPhone screens replaced with non-genuine displays that will almost always lead to problems.
In an advisory document, Cupertino tech giant Apple has announced that iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max users will be notified if their device is using non-genuine Apple displays. This applies to those who go to non-certified service providers for screen repairs.
Apple said the use of non-genuine displays could possibly lead to a host of problems. “The iPhone display is engineered together with iOS software for optimal performance and quality,” the advisory read. “A nongenuine display might cause compatibility or performance issues. For example, an issue might arise after an iOS software update that contains display updates.”
The Cupertino tech giant said the problems that could arise from using non-genuine display parts include:
Multi-touch issues
- Multi-Touch might not respond on parts of the screen
- Missed screen touches or wrong touch registers
- Unexpected touch registers during calls
- Display might not turn off during calls
- Accidental edge or palm touches
Display brightness and color issues
- True Tone display errors
- Malfunctioning ambient light sensor, causing the screen to dim or brighten incorrectly
- Incorrect display color calibration
- Display isn't uniformly bright
- Unintentional battery drain
Apple said users will be notified via an “Important Display Message” that reads “Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple display.” This message will appear on the Lock screen for the first 4 days and in the Settings app for 15 days after the non-genuine display is detected. After this, the message can be seen via Settings > General > About. The notifications won’t affect how the iPhone functions.
